- Always make sure children are in a gown so you can see all parts of the child easily.
- Always be alert for inconsistencies and injury patterns. Recurrent trauma, developmentally inappropriate stories, inappropriate transference, symmetrical injuries/burns, and delays in seeking care should move child abuse higher in your differential.
- Make sure to document your suspicion or lack of suspicion for abuse in all fractures in young children and other appropriate cases.
- Look at the fundi in all young children with unusual behavior or neuro findings.
