The intent behind Carolinas Core Concepts is to provide access to cutting-edge lectures by the Department of Emergency Medicine at Carolinas Medical Center. Among our world-renowned faculty are John Marx, Jeffrey Kline, Robert Schafermeyer, Vivek Tayal, Lee Garvey, Andrew Asimos and other leaders in the field of emergency medicine.

Dr. Fox received his medical degree and completed a combined residency in EM/Peds at the University of Maryland. He completed ACEP’s Teaching Fellowship focusing on curriculum development with innovative methods, and currently is the director of the Emergency Medicine residency didactic curriculum.
Dr. Pearson completed medical school at Vanderbilt University in 2002 and completed an Emergency Medicine residency at the Denver Health Medical Center in 2006. Shortly thereafter, Dave joined Carolinas Medical Center as clinical faculty and is currently the Associate Program Director of the residency.
Dr. Kahler hails from Tucson, Arizona. His major interests are graduate medical education and ultrasound research. Currently in his PGY-3 year, his plans next year are to pursue a fellowship in an attempt to break into the difficult and mysterious world of academic medicine.
Dr. Musey went to medical school at Emory School of Medicine. His primary interests are in EMS research and graduate medical education. He is a senior resident at Carolinas Medical Center and will likely pursue a fellowship in the upcoming year.
Dr. Miller is a PGY-2 resident who comes to us from sunny South California at UCSD Santa Barbara. Her goal is to mix community and academic medicine upon graduating from residency. Research interests include medical education and international medicine.
Dr. Cao is a PGY-2 resident who has been transplanted from the Lone Star State after graduating from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX. His current research interests include medical education and toxicology. He hopes to pursue a fellowship in Medical Toxicology.
